About HEADSPACE

Headspace is a guide to everyday mindfulness that allows users to track their progress on their mindfulness journey. The app includes guided meditations on everything from managing stress to sleep, productivity, and physical health. My personal favorite was the pregnancy meditation pack, as I was pregnant during my time freelancing at Headspace in their LA office. I definitely lucked out working at a place that championed mindfulness, health, and happiness during my journey into motherhood!

My Role

During my time at Headspace I worked on integrating a kid’s meditation experience into the product, digital marketing experiences for holiday promotions, and re-imagining the ‘Get Some Give Some’ initiative, which donated subscriptions to at-risk populations.

Re-Imagining Buy One Give One

This was a chance to dig into how the program could evolve to be even more impactful to users and their decision to join/renew. The team brainstormed a plethora of ideas to improve the program, which I vetted and streamlined into a few key directions to test. I created a presentation to keep the wider stakeholders informed of the paths we were exploring.

Headspace followed a giving model which donated a year's subscription to someone in need for each subscription purchased. The program, called Get Some Give Some, needed to be integrated more visibly within the app and website.  Research showed that most users weren’t even aware of the program, and that it would be an important factor in the decision about whether to join or renew their subscription.

User Testing

In order to understand user preferences and motivations as they relate to the program’s model, content and messaging, we needed to put our ideas in front of users. I created low fidelity wireframes, turned them into clickable prototypes, and walked the team through options for methods of testing. I then conducted the tests and presented my findings to the team.

Headspace for Kids

Another project I worked on was integrating kids’ meditations into the Headspace app. At the time, kids were not a primary user, meaning that content for kids would need to show up in the parents’ app. We needed a solution that would follow the rules of the current design system, be scalable enough for future content types, and be both discoverable and unobtrusive, since not all users would use this feature.

After reviewing past research and behavioral archetypes in terms of parents using the app with their children, I created wireframes and laid out the benefits and drawbacks of each potential direction. The following slides are an excerpt from these explorations.

Just for fun

I’ll leave you with a fun inside look at Headspace’s office and culture, complete with daily guided meditations by Andy Puddicombe (founder and former buddhist monk), personal meditation pods, and even a nap room.
